Clustering Properties in Turbulent Signals
نویسنده
چکیده
We consider the telegraph approximation (TA) of turbulent signals by ignoring their amplitude variability and retaining only their ‘zero’-crossing information. We establish a unique relationship between the spectral exponent of a signal and that of its TA, whenever the signal possesses a Gaussian PDF and a spectral shape in which the highfrequency cut-off is sufficiently sharp. The velocity signals in most turbulent flows away from the wall satisfy these conditions approximately, so that the Kolmogorov spectral exponent of −5/3 for the turbulent velocity spectrum corresponds to a −4/3 spectral exponent for its TA. By introducing a new scaling exponent to characterize the tendency of small-scale fluctuations to cluster, we show that the velocity and passive scalar signals display a finite tendency to cluster even in the limit of Re → ∞. We advance the notion, on the basis of the properties of the TA, that turbulent processes belong to one of two classes—either the ‘white noise’ type or the ‘Markov-Lorentzian’ type.

Cluster Analysis of Acoustic Emission Signals for Carbon/Epoxy Composite in Four-point Bending Test (RESEARCH NOTE)
Due to the extensive use of composites in various industries and the fact that defects reduce ultimate strength and efficiency during operation, detection of failures in composite parts is very important. The aim of this paper is to use Acoustic Emission (AE) non-destructive method in four-point bending test of carbon/epoxy composite to analyze and examine the failure mechanisms. This method is...
متن کاملNumerical Study of turbulent free convection of liquid metal with constant and variable properties in the presence of magnetic field
In this research, turbulent MHD convection of liquid metal with constant and variable properties is investigated numerically. The finite volume method is applied to model the fluid flow and natural convection heat transfer in a square cavity. The fluid flow and heat transfer were simulated and compared for two cases constant and variable properties. It is observed that for the case variable pro...

In a dense modern electronic warfare environment, there are a lot of radar signals. Pulse repetition intervals of signals received from radars can have various modulations and levels. It is very important to recognize these modulations and to determine their levels in electronic warfare support systems. In this paper, a method of estimating PRI levels is proposed. The extensions of the biased a...
متن کاملTurbulent fluid acceleration generates clusters of gyrotactic microorganisms.
The motility of microorganisms is often biased by gradients in physical and chemical properties of their environment, with myriad implications on their ecology. Here we show that fluid acceleration reorients gyrotactic plankton, triggering small-scale clustering. We experimentally demonstrate this phenomenon by studying the distribution of the phytoplankton Chlamydomonas augustae within a rotat...
متن کاملExtraction of Respiratory Signal Based on Image Clustering and Intensity Parameters at Radiotherapy with External Beam: A Comparative Study
Background: Since tumors located in thorax region of body mainly move due to respiration, in the modern radiotherapy, there have been many attempts such as; external markers, strain gage and spirometer represent for monitoring patients’ breathing signal. With the advent of fluoroscopy technique, indirect methods were proposed as an alternative approach to extract patients’ breathing signals...
